Dr. Jay Baltz, DNP, PMHNP-BC is a board-certified Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who has been practicing since December 2009.
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Baltz moved to New York City after high school, where he studied creative writing, secondary education, and psychology. He completed a BFA in Creative Writing, then briefly taught English Literature at the high school level. In the mid-1990’s, he left teaching to design and develop web pages, write copy, and administrate computer networks for companies such as Accenture, Dell, and Liz Claiborne.
Dr. Baltz soon found that he wanted a more meaningful career, and his interests in the mind, psychology, and biology led him to pursue a profession in mental health. He preferred a holistic and education-based approach to care, and admired the fortitude and compassion of nurses. He returned to his hometown and completed a second Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
After working as a registered nurse (RN) for a year, he earned his Master of Nursing in 2008 and Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2018 from Saint Louis University, completing his clinical practicum hours in a wide variety of settings, including Barnes-Jewish hospital, Rosati Group Home, and various private physician practices.
