Dr. Jay Baltz, DNP, PMHNP-BCDNP is a board certified Los Angeles psychiatric nurse practitioner who has been practicing since December 2009.
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Baltz moved to New York City after high school, where he studied creative writing, secondary education, and psychology. He completed a BFA in Creative Writing, then briefly taught English Literature at the high school level. In the mid-1990’s, he left teaching to design and develop web pages, write copy, and administrate computer networks for companies such as Accenture, Dell, and Liz Claiborne.
Dr. Baltz soon found that he wanted a career helping others, and his interests in the brain, psychology, and biology led him to pursue a profession in mental health. He preferred a holistic and education-based approach to care, and so decided to pursue nursing rather than medicine. He returned to his hometown and completed a second Bachelor’s degree.
After working as a registered nurse (RN) for a year, he earned his Master of Nursing in 2008 and Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2018 from Saint Louis University, completing his clinical practicum hours in a wide variety of settings, including Barnes-Jewish hospital, Rosati Group Home, and various private practices. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and was inducted into the prestigious honor societies Sigma Theta Tau and Alpha Sigma Nu for scholarship, loyalty, and service.
